Are you wanting to awaken your inner Da Vinci? That’s so great. Learning is one of the best things we can do as humans. So I will share my top 7 ways where I like to embrace my curiosity & enjoy learning new things & you as well can adapt them into your lifestyle! 🙂
(I chose “Awaken Your Inner Da Vinci” because Leonardo Da Vinci wasn’t just a painter he was an anatomist, architect, astronomer, botanist, cartographer, engineer, geologist, hydrodynamicist, mathematician, musician, theatre producer, scientist, sculptor, and an inventor. h He was so curious he ended up being one of the greatest geniuses in the world due to embracing his curiosity.)
Here are 7 ways to awaken your inner Da Vinci, embrace curiosity and enjoy learning new things!
1. ignite curiosity
All it took was an apple to the head, and then we got Sir Isaac Newton figuring out the laws of gravity (Who I inevitably share a birthday with LOL 4th of Jan, although he has two dates of birth, however, calendars were different during that time)
ANYWAYS back to curiosity. One of my instructors told me to be more curious so that I could ask more questions and then gain more knowledge. The best advice I’ve gotten.
BE MORE CURIOUS.
2. Read books
You don’t necessarily have to read non-fiction if you simply can’t read non-fiction books. You can learn from the characters in fiction books & how they solve problems.
But if you aren’t much of an avid reader, dread no more because there are audiobooks, and onto #3 on the list. There we have podcasts!!!
3. podcasts
Podcasts. Embrace your curiosity & enjoy learning new things by listening to a podcast. Such an amazing way to gain knowledge about anything you are curious about. We’ve got any topic covered, whether it be neuroscience, aviation, history, nature etc. It’s like the world is in your hands.
4. create a schedule
Leonardo Da Vinci had a few paintings that were unfinished because the man was so curious he just kept moving from one topic to another.
Even I as well get so overwhelmed because I would jump from one thing to another and having to come back and re-teach myself what I have just learned becomes even more of a hassle.
So let’s create a schedule. Dedicate one day out of the week or 1 hour out of the day just to do one thing. Here’s an example
Let’s say you want to learn how to code but you also want to learn about plant life (so a botanist) & maybe a few other things depending on how busy you are.
So then you can dedicate all of Monday possibly every Monday (depending on your lifestyle) to coding. Wednesday could be dedicated to learning about plants & gardening. OR if you don’t have much time then dedicate 1-2hrs (depending on your attention span) to the said skill or thing you want to learn.
It’s trial and error experiment so go at your own pace, your learning isn’t going anywhere!
5. connect with passionate learners
(cats are very curious creatures & that’s based on their nature. Connect with a cat they seem like pretty passionate learners lol)
To continue to stay motivated, connect with other passionate learners. Attend networking events. You become who you surround yourself with & if you are around people who embrace their curiosity, chances are you will feel a lot more comfortable embracing your own curiosity.
Not only can connecting with other passionate learners help you stay motivated, but it also opens a lot of doors to new opportunities and maybe the greatest opportunities as well.
6. leverage imposter syndrome for success
At one point we have all hit a huge milestone, the best achievement & just never felt good enough or worthy of that achievement. BEEN. THERE. I. KNOW. HOW. IT. FEELS.
You nitpick what you aren’t happy about, and to you, the small things become magnified but it seems that success has shrunk in our vision. You have to remember, during these times, you may be the harshest critic of yourself but even self-doubt needs a good editor to turn it into a bestseller.
Here’s my experience:
I’m slow at doing addition and subtraction. The simplest mental math questions, & when I’m asked to do simple addition, subtraction whatever question, I get so anxious because the person is clearly waiting as they did the quick maths & have the answer in their head. It makes me feel like the most unintelligent person in the room. Can’t do quick maths, (it becomes slow maths lol.) So I leveraged imposter syndrome.
I got recommended this book by my dad called “The Mathematical Universe” by William Dunham (great read btw) & I’ve gotten so invested in learning advanced mathematical topics. That you know what, I may not be a quick calculator with simple math problems but I can tell you how Archimedes derived the value of pi. LOL
7. Playful mindset
You know what, I hate to admit this but sometimes learning new things and progressing on can eventually feel mundane, boring, dull, etc. So when this happens, (trust me it does) change up the way you learn.
Show up with a playful mindset. This could be by making your pet your student & you the teacher. (Regardless of the pet having absolutely no grasp of what you are explaining to them) It’s a creative way to engage in your own curiosity.
Or let’s say you are a comedian, or a spoken word artist, etc. You can add a little bit of what you learned about in your bit & share it with the audience. (I wrote a tea time poem but about the Boston Party, LOL #historylesson)
At the end of the day, allow yourself to embrace curiosity, and let your inner child explore the world. There is so much to learn.
